The San Antonio Spurs have waived forwards JaMychal Green Wesley Witherspoon today. The current roster, which includes forward Josh Powell who is still vying for the final spot, is down to 15 players.
Witherspoon, an undrafted rookie from the University of Memphis, appeared in three exhibition games, averaging 8.3 points and two rebounds.
Drawing his first start against the Houston Rockets, Witherspoon scored a game-high 17 points along with four rebounds and two 3-pointers.
Witherspoon signed a training camp contract with the Spurs on Sept. 27. He did not make the trip to Florida for the back-to-back against the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic.
There is room for improvement and the Spurs may wish to develop the 22-year-old forward further. The Austin Toros could claim his D-League rights, making him another prospect in which to keep our eyes on.
Green, 22, was signed to the Spurs roster Tuesday and could also be a fixture of the Toros, if they claim his D-League rights.
