Free agent Jason Kapono has reportedly been working out with the San Antonio Spurs this week according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Kapono appeared in 27 games with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, averaging 10 minutes per game. It was an abbreviated stint to say the least and we shouldn’t take anything from his past two seasons.

He is a career 43.4% shooter from behind the arc but when you juxtapose the rest of his skill set (or lack thereof), Kapono really isn’t a desirable player. His shooting is easily replicated by simply retaining Matt Bonner, who is an elite perimeter shooter with the actual ability to play defense.

Considering the Spurs are looking at younger pieces, as they will work out Tyler Wilkerson, Reyshawn Terry, Derrick Brown, Josh Akognon, Brian Butch and Warren Carter, there isn’t any legitimate reason to invite a nine year veteran at the tail end of his career to training camp.

Hat-tip to Trevor Zickgraf of Project Spurs.
