The San Antonio Spurs announced today that Ime Udoka will join the staff as an assistant coach.
Udoka played three seasons with the Spurs, appearing in 160 games. The seven year veteran also played with the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Portland Trailblazers and Sacramento Kings.
While Idoka has little coaching experience, Gregg Popovich raved about his work ethic.
“Ime Udoka possesses an outstanding work ethic as well as a natural inclination to teach,” Popovich said. We are excited to add someone with his potential to our coaching staff.”
Udoka will likely be tasked with the defensive side of the ball in a role similar to departed assistant Don Newman.
