Defeat

In the 4th quarter of last night’s game I was starting to put ideas together for how I was going to recap the action.  Then Louis Williams stole those ideas and ran off with them, scoring 2 idea points and getting fouled in the process.  I know, it’s a terrible lead in but for 1:55 of the 4th quarter, Louis Williams stole a game from the Spurs.

Tied at 84 with a little less than 7 minutes to go in the game, Williams hit a3 point shot and the Sixers never trailed again.  The lead got to as big as 16 before both teams cleared their bench, meaning that even Ian Mahinmi did get to play.

Manu Ginobli led the Spurs and all scorers with 24 points and George Hill added 18, but it wasn’t enough as the Spurs fell to 1-1 in the post-Richard Jefferson’s goatee era.

Williams and Andre Iguodala paced the 76er attack with 20 points each.

Player of the Game: Louis Williams, 76ers

Literally was the difference in the game as he took over for about a 2 minute stretch that turned a tie game into a 10 point 76er lead.

Matthew Svoboda Award for Play Most Resembling His Own: The Spurs transition defense.  They gave up 38 fast break points and looked slow to react all night.

It was over when… this sequence of play gave the Sixers a 10 point lead:

Last words on this game:  It’ll take you longer to read the recap I just wrote than it did for the Sixers to open up a 10 point lead.

Toros finish week 1-1

The Austin Toros split their 2 games this week, losing Thursday night 111-107 at Los Angeles but winning last night over Bakersfield 118-116.

Alonzo Gee led the Toros in scoring both games.  He had 27 points against the D-fenders Thurday and 31 in the win over the Jam.

Other great performances for the week included Malik Hairston scoring 26 Friday night and Curtis Jerrells scoring 24 points in Thursday’s game.

The Toros are currently in 2nd place in the Western Conference at 20-11 and return to action tomorrow against the Bakersfield Jam.
