It has been a rough couple of days for the Spurs, losers of two in a row and three of their last four. But all is not lost: Despirte the losing streak there has been one player who is picking up his game at just the right time.
Ime Udoka is beginning to shine for the Silver and Black. In fact, on Sunday Udoka scored 16 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter. But it goes back farther than that. Udoka did not get much time at all early in the season but has recently earned more minutes the old fashioned way, working hard for them.
He didn’t get much time in the beginning of the year, Coach Popp said.
“We’ve been holding him back a little bit. He’s been keeping himself in shape. He’s been working hard before and after practices. He’s a pro, and he had a great game tonight.”
Udoka said his goal is to bring the Spurs some energy and defensive intensity. When he made three of his first four shots, he opted to keep looking for offensive opportunity.
“I hit a few shots early and was playing power forward a little bit, so I got to crash the boards and run around, but I was just trying to help the team,” he said.
