Per Marc Stein, it would appear the Spurs may want to make a deal for the former Duke guard.

Add one more team to list of those showing interest in @jjredick: San Antonio. Magic, from start, have wanted no less than a first for him

— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) February 21, 2013

This news is a little shocking. San Antonio is already extremely deep at the guard position. What would Redick add the Spurs don’t already possess?

Well, Redick is a proven scorer. Averaging 15.1 points per game, Redick is shooting a career-high 45% from the field. Also, he is averaging a career-high 4.4 assists per game.

Redick seems to be reaching the apex of his game, and the Orlando Magic definitely want something of value in return. Stein’s tweet mentions the Magic want ‘no less than first [round pick]‘ for Redick.

Right now it’s uncertain whether the Spurs can feasibly acquire Redick, and even if they can move a player or two, Redick is not some underrated talent. San Antonio would not be able to re-sign Redick for cheap this summer.

Playing in his seventh year in the league, Redick would be a nice addition and could fit in well with San Antonio’s system, but I see this trade as unlikely. Although, knowing the Spurs front office, if they really feel like Redick puts the team over the edge, they’ll find a way to make it happen.

Believe it or not, this is DeJuan Blair’s fourth year in the NBA and with the San Antonio Spurs. By now, Blair probably should have been dealt somewhere. San Antonio does not have much use for the Pittsburgh product, but he still remains on the roster.

Blair was a Draft Night steal by all means. The Spurs picked him up late in the second round, and Blair did not disappoint.

Right out of the gate, Blair was a workhorse crashing the boards and providing some rare youth to San Antonio’s front court. However, with the additions of Tiago Splitter and Boris Diaw, Blair’s minutes have dwindled and has developed a non-existent role with the Spurs.

Now the big question for San Antonio is what to do with him. Multiple reports indicate they will see what offer they can get, but it will be difficult to get much value for a guy who’s putting up career-low averages.

San Antonio would have to hope a team would be willing to take Blair based off what he did in the past, because he still is a capable post. He just does not fit in San Antonio’s line-up any longer.

One of the few good problems to have in the NBA is having too much depth. The only bad part about it is, someone who probably deserves NBA minutes gets left out.

That player being DeJuan Blair, the Spurs could try to get a draft pick in exchange for Blair. The front office got lucky getting Blair where they did, and this is a group that naturally finds diamonds in the rough.

However, if the Spurs can not move Blair tomorrow, he will have his shot at free agency this summer.

It is a shame it could not work out better. Blair looked like one of the future pieces of this team, but the Spurs do not have any room in the rotation and it will not be long before we know what San Antonio decides to do with no. 45.
