San Antonio got a lot less trill today after Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Spurs have decided to waive Stephen Jackson, with only 4 games left in the season.

The news is shocking of course, but if we’ve learned anything about Pop and R.C. it’s that no move is done without cause. It remains to be seen if there will be a corresponding roster move now that the Spurs are down to 14 active guys.

Jackson is now free to sign with any other team, but since he was waived after March 1st, he is not playoff roster eligible.

Stephen Jackson averaged 6.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 55 games this season.

From Adrian Wojnarowski:

Gregg Popovich and Stephen Jackson have been sparring over Jax’s role throughout season; disagreements resurfaced this week, source tells Y!

Official Press Release from the Spurs:

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have placed forward Stephen Jackson on waivers.

Jackson, who was in his second stint with the Spurs, saw action in 55 games this season, averaging 6.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.5 minutes.

A 13-year NBA veteran, Jackson has appeared in 849 career games, averaging 15.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.30 steals in 32.1 minutes.

The Spurs roster now stands at 14.

Stephen Jackson seemed to have re-injured his ankle Wedensday night against the Orlando Magic as he played just nineteen minutes.

Today, Jackson is scheduled to have an MRI on the ankle, according to Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News. Jackson stated that the ankle that will be checked on is one that he suffered against the New York Knicks back on January 3rd.

“It’s the same ankle as the New York game, and it happened the same way — somebody stepped on my foot,” Jackson said. “I tried to play through it, and I shouldn’t have done that.”

Editor Note: MRI did come back that Jackson suffered a mild sprain to his ankle.
