Betting on San Antonio Spurs basketball

The San Antonio Spurs went into the 2013/14 NBA season aiming to go one better than last season, where they lost out in the finals to the Miami Heat, and they are certainly looking like potential champions in their division just now – with fifteen wins from eighteen played. None of this is any great shock, as the Spurs were amongst the favorites with bookmakers’ pre-season, and remain so for both the Southwest Division and the Western Conference. Furthermore, they may not be the absolute favorites for the NBA Championship, but they are not far outside of it, so what bets should you put on them?

While there is always some degree of risk, betting on San Antonio at Division level this season is as close to a safe bet as you can make. You can get best odds of around 5/12 on them for this, making it a brave punter who puts his or her money on any other side. The Conference is a bit more open from a gambling perspective, although the Spurs are still bookies’ favorites at 13/4. The odds are so low for the Division that only really risk-averse bettors will fancy it, but a lot of people will probably want to put money on them for either the Conference, or the Championship at 9/1. That’s if they can tear themselves away from online casino basketball slot games of course.

This might seem a strange remark, but Slam Dunk and similar slot machine games at are seeing more sports fans choosing casino over conventional sports betting these days. Certainly part of the appeal is the jackpot that all slot games offer, but the inventive way the sports themes are developed also has a lot to do with it, such as the Michael Jordan references in Slam Dunk. As well as the trainers, players, cheerleaders and whistles on the reels of this game, there are shirts numbered 23 – Jordan’s number – which double as the wild icons. It is a clever touch, and appropriate, as the wild improves your chance of a payout just as Jordan improved his team’s chance of a win.
