Las Vegas Summer League Day 4 Recap

The Las Vegas Summer League completed preliminary play on Monday night. They will move into tournament style play on Tuesday.

New York Knicks: 71 (1-2) at Charlotte Bobcats: 84 (2-1)Cody Zeller scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats to an 84-71 win over the Knicks. Bismack Biyombo did exactly what Charlotte needs him to do and that’s play defense. He grabbed 11 boards and blocked 2 shots and added 5 points to the winning effort. Jeff Taylor chipped in 20 points.Tim Hardaway, Jr. was a Did Not Play due to a bruised wrist he suffered against the Washington Wizards on Sunday. CJ Leslie led the Knicks with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jerome Jordan added 12 points and 9 boards. Terrence Jennings had another good game with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Cleveland Cavaliers: 62 (2-1) at New Orleans Pelicans: 66 (2-1)The backcourt tandem of Austin Rivers (13 points) and Brian Roberts (11 points) led the Pelicans to a win over the Cavaliers. Lance Thomas contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds.Tyler Zeller had 15 points and 12 boards in the losing effort and Dion Waiters continues to flash his potential finishing with 16 points for the Cavs.

Minnesota Timberwolves: 89 (0-2) at Phoenix Suns: 91 (2-0)The Morris brothers helped the Suns outscore the Wolves by 20 in the second half to win the game at the buzzer 91-89. Marcus Morris had 18 points and Markieff Morris had 22 points. Marcus hit the game winner. Kendall Marshall added 13 points and 6 assists.The Wolves had a 24-point lead in the first half, but could not hang on. Robbie Hummel had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Demetri McCamey added 13 points in the loss.

Los Angeles Clippers: 65 (1-2) at Los Angeles Lakers: 77 (2-1)Marcus Landry led four Lakers in double figures with 16 points and 6 rebounds in a win over the Clippers. Lester Hudson had 13 points and Elias Harris and Chris Douglas-Roberts added 12 points apiece.Reggie Bullock connected on 2 three’s and finished with 12 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Clips were outscored 35-25 by the Lakers in the 2nd half. DaJuan Summers and JaJuan Johnson each had 11 points.

Sacramento Kings: 66 (0-2) at Golden State Warriors: 80 (2-0)Draymond Green led the Warriors with 18 points in their win over the Kings. Kent Bazemore added 15 points and Ian Clark contributed 11 points in the winning effort.Ray McCallum led the Kings with 23 points and 6 steals. Ben McLemore struggled with his range all night, tossing up a couple of air balls on three’s a little too far beyond the arc. He finished with 14 points.

Chicago Bulls: 93 (2-0) at Denver Nuggets: 81 (0-2)All five starters for the Chicago Bulls were in double digits. Andrew Goudelock led all scorers with 31, but Malcolm Thomas provided all the highlights with an athletic tomahawk dunk and grabbing a Summer League record 22 rebounds. He finished with 13 points. Erik Murphy contributed 18 points, and Marquis Teague and Tony Snell had 15 and 11 points, respectively.Denver also had 5 scorers in double digits in the losing effort. Evan Fournier led all Nuggets with 20 points. Luke Harangody contributed 17 points and 7 rebounds. Darius Johnson-Odom showed off an extra gear blowing by defenders caught looking for an easy layup. He finished the night with 10 points and 6 assists. Jordan Hamilton and Erick Green added 11 points apiece.
