Spurs Expect Manu Ginobili To Return For One More Season

The San Antonio Spurs are expecting Manu Ginobili to return to the team for one, final season – this according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Per Jeff McDonald:

In May, Ginobili said he has no plans to retire. He left the possibility of retirement open a bit with comments during the Finals, but smart money says he will be back for at least one more season at a rate steeply discounted from the team-leading $14.1 million he earned in 2012-13. Nobody expects Ginobili will continue his career with any team other than the Spurs.

I for one had a feeling that Ginobili would not go out the way he did during the NBA Finals.  He had more downs than he did ups.  As McDonald pointed out, just weeks before the finals, Ginobili seemed assured he wold be returning for one more year.

there was an article by Manu today that sounded like he was going to try and come back one more year. I really wish he would retire. Not because I don’t like him (because he’s my favorite player on this team) but it’s been painful watching him play like this and end it this way. The only thing I’m hopeful is he’ll have the whole summer off to rest and work on his game a little bit. Also this whole season has been bad for him injury wise and by the time he came back in the playoffs he wasn’t in shape or form for the playoffs.
