The Spurs were winning by four points with 5:01 remaining. Certainly not a margin in which to feel too confident.
That was until Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins unintentionally elicited the Spurs’ game-clinching run. Drawing Tim Duncan’s second personal foul, Cousins then directed an expletive towards the 13 time All-Star. Duncan answered the challenge with six points, four rebounds and a block shot. San Antonio outscored the Kings, 16-9, in the final 5:01.
Reserve point guard Patty Mills put the finishing touches on a 18-point performance (8-of-9 shooting) with a corner 3-pointer that stretched the lead to 10 points with 2:44 remaining.
