Devoid of a general manager after their unexpected firing of Otis Smith, the Orlando Magic have requested permission to speak to San Antonio Spurs’ assistant general manager Dennis Lindsey according to Mark Sandritter of SB Nation.

Per Sandritter: “Spurs assistant general manager Dennis Lindsey is also a candidate, and San Antonio is expected to give Orlando permission to interview Lindsey soon. Lindsey, who has been with San Antonio for five years, has previously been a candidate for open general manager positions in Toronto and Portland.”

If Lindsey were to take the opportunity to rebuild an entire franchise around a disgruntled superstar, the Spurs would be without an assistant general manager. Lindsey’s input on front office decisions remains to be seen.
