Duncan still rolling in his 15th season

Last night, Tim Duncan was instrumental in the Spurs 10 point victory over the Memphis Grizzlies as Joe Bendiez pointed out in his recap. Duncan tied his season high with 28 points and 12 boards. Duncan has essentially patented the 20-10 box score but, even so, I remain genuinely surprised that he’s still playing this well in his 15th season.

So, how well is Timmy playing this year? Here’s a brief look at other notable Hall of Famers and their 15th seasons (Editor’s note: stats are adjusted per 36 minutes to cover for any discrepancies in minutes).

Duncan- 18.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, three assists, 1.9 blocks.
Abdul-Jabbar- 23.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, two blocks.
Barkley- 15.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.3 blocks.
Ewing- 16.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 blocks.
Garnett- 17.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, one block.
Karl Malone- 25.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.9 blocks.
Moses Malone- 20.5 points, 12 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 blocks.
McHale*- 16.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 blocks.
Olajuwon- 19.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.5 blocks.
O’Neal- 21.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks.
Robinson*- 11.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 2.4 blocks.

And here’s some advanced statistics I happened to gleam (translation: I have no life).

Duncan- 51.5 true shooting percentage, 105 offensive rating, 99 defensive rating, .149 win shares/48.
Abdul-Jabbar- 60.8 TS%, 115 ORtg, 107 DRtg, .163 WS/48.
Barkley- 54.6 TS%, 115 ORtg, 100 DRtg, .215 WS/48.
Ewing- 51.9 TS%, 105 ORtg, 108 DRtg, .113 WS/48.
Garnett- 56.9 TS%, 112 ORtg, 101 DRtg, .171 WS/48.
Karl Malone- 58.2 TS%, 115 ORtg, 100 DRtg, .249 WS/48.
Moses Malone- 58.1 TS%, 116 ORtg, 105 DRtg, .178 WS/48.
McHale*- 51.9 TS%, 105 ORtg, 108 DRtg, .082 WS/48.
Olajuwon- 55.9 TS%, 105 ORtg, 96 DRtg, .175 WS/48.
O’Neal- 56.7 TS%, 105 ORtg, 104 DRtg, .119 WS/48.
Robinson*- 46.9 TS%, 109 ORtg, 95 DRtg, .172 WS/48.

* stats taken from McHale’s 13th season and Robinson’s 14th season.

Duncan’s ranks in the respective categories: third in DRtg, third in rebounds, fourth in assists, fourth in blocks, sixth in points, T-seventh in ORtg, eighth in WS/48, 10th in TS%.

I’m not going to make any outlandish assertions but it appears that Duncan is playing really well despite 46,197 minutes on his odometer.
