Spurs-Timberwolves notes: Pekovic, Bonner officially out

A couple of Spurs-Timberwolves related notes before tip off.

– Minnesota Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic will miss his second consecutive game tonight with an ankle injury. His presence as a dominant offensive rebounder (2nd in NBA) should strengthen the Spurs cause.

– That being said, Matt Bonner is also out with back spasms. His ability to space the floor will be sorely missed.

– Gregg Popovich is willing to try and let Kawhi Leonard and Stephen Jackson guard Kevin Love. If they are successful, this could become a trend.

– Manu Ginobili revealed he has a minutes cap in an interview with an Argentinian radio show. We’ll see if that holds true tonight. Be sure to watch how Popovich handles Manu during this dense part of the schedule.

– Bruce Bowen’s jersey will be retired tonight. This is a special day for him, his family and Spurs fans everywhere. Enjoy the game and don’t be afraid to be nostalgic about one of the best perimeter defenders of our generation.
